The City contracts with the County of Ventura Animal Services Department for animal control issues, including enforcement of the City's ordinance to declare any dog a public nuisance that barks so loudly, so frequently, and continuously over so long a period of time as to deprive individuals in the neighborhood of the comfortable enjoyment of their homes. For more information on how to file a complaint regarding an excessively barking dog, please visit the Animal Services website or call 1-888-223-7387. You may also contact the City's Code Enforcement staff at 583-6753 for additional information and assistance.

The Simi Valley Police Department places a high value on advanced education. Although a college education is not a requirement for employment as a Police Officer, most of our Officers have completed some college coursework and many have bachelor’s degrees. The area of college coursework does not necessarily have to be related to the study of criminal justice. Employment or volunteer positions involving public contact, customer service, interpersonal communication, dependability, and responsibility, as well as military experience, can provide applicants with the skills and abilities to be successful in the law enforcement field.
Both sworn and civilian job openings are posted on the City of Simi Valley website, and announcement flyers are available at the information desk at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
Please contact the City's Traffic Engineering Division at (805) 583-6786 to request the installation of a traffic signal at a particular intersection. Traffic engineers follow State and Federal guidelines and criteria called "warrants" to evaluate intersections for signal installation.
“Children at Play” signs and similar signs are not recognized by the State of California or by the Federal Highway Administration as official traffic control devices and therefore, are not installed by the City on public streets. Many people believe that “Children at Play” signs and similar signs, such as “Slow,” or “Slow Entering Residential Area,” enhance the children’s safety, but may not realize that there are many safety concerns about the use of these signs. Such signs have been proven to be ineffective in providing added protection for children, and the sign’s presence could negatively affect the children’s safety on our streets.
The City installs speed limit signs on all major roadways. Speed limit signs are not required for residential streets. The speed limit on residential streets is established by State law and often referred to as “prima facie” limit which does not require posting of signs for enforcement. Other prima facie limits established are 15 mph in alleys, at blind intersections, blind railroad crossings, and 25 mph in business, and posted school zones when children are going to and from school.
For traffic signal timing, please call Traffic Engineering (805) 583-6786. To report a traffic signal malfunction, please call the Police Department dispatch center at (805) 583-6950.
No. Only public authorities shall place traffic signs and markings for the purpose of regulating, warning, or guiding traffic as stated in the California Department of Transportation Traffic Manual (Caltrans). The City installs curb paint/no-stopping signs, or other traffic signs and markings, after careful examination of their need and impacts on City streets. Therefore, all signs and curb markings in the public right-of-way must be installed by the City or with the City’s approval. For more information, contact the Traffic Engineering Division at (805) 583-6786.
Each year the City of Simi Valley publishes an 8”x11” Average Daily Traffic (ADT) Map showing the traffic volumes for all major arterial streets within the City limits and for the Ronald Reagan Freeway. To view the map click here or contact the City's Public Works Counter at (805) 583-6786 for more information.
