Senior Volunteer Opportunities - (805) 583-6363

We are always looking for additional eligible volunteers. The Volunteer Program helps people age fifty and older locate fun and rewarding service opportunities at the Senior Center. Whether you can give four or forty hours a week, our volunteer coordinator identifies opportunities that match your personal interests and makes use of your skills and experience to find the right job for you.

In 2006-2007 hundreds of volunteers helped in many programs and activities while volunteering nearly 23,000 hours of service. Great job!

For more information about these volunteer opportunities and to offer your service, please call the Senior Center at (805) 583-6363.

BROWN BAG:  Every Tuesday, volunteers are needed to prepare and distribute bags filled with supplemental groceries for income eligible seniors at the Senior Center.

COUNCIL ON AGING:  The Simi Valley Council On Aging (COA) is composed of nine Executive Board members, appointed by the City Council, and general members who serve on committees and assist with projects and special events. Volunteers are needed to help with special events that raise funds for many of the programs available at the Senior Center. To apply to serve on the Executive Board, complete the Council On Aging application.

LIFELINE:  The Lifeline Program, an emergency response system that summons help through the push of a button, needs volunteers to install the machines and make monthly telephone calls to subscribers.

MEALS ON WHEELS:  Drivers are needed to deliver lunch to homebound seniors Monday through Friday. Schedules vary and drivers are reimbursed for their mileage. Auto insurance and a good driving record are required.

AMBASSADOR I: Volunteers are needed to assist Senior Center staff at the Reception Desks by welcoming visitors, giving tours of the Center, and providing copying and filing assistance for special projects. If you have a few hours each week to do some volunteer work, we need you.

AMBASSADOR II: Sign up to work at the Reception Desks answering phones, booking appointments, and working with clients who come to the desk with questions. To promote excellent customer service, this position requires volunteering a minimum of twice a week for three hours to ensure the volunteer is familiar with Senior Center operations.

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM:  An average of 60 seniors per day enjoy noon-time meals Monday through Friday at the Senior Center. Volunteers are needed in the kitchen to help prepare and serve the meal, and to clean up. Other volunteers assist with taking meal reservations.

SPECIAL EVENTS:  Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help assist with special events, such as the Fashion Show, Arts & Crafts Fairs, Italian Dinner and the twice-monthly dances. Hours and days vary and include evening and weekend hours.

SENIOR NEWSLETTER:  Volunteers are needed to collate, fold and label the monthly newsletter and other special mailings. Ask to be put on the call list.
